So you’ve booked your tickets, sorted out your transport and hotel and are on your way to the theatre…the next thing to consider is where you would like to go for a meal either before or after the show to round off your evening! The Playhouse Theatre is located in the very centre of town so there should be no shortage of buzzing restaurants and cafés to choose from; however, too much choice can sometimes be a bad thing when you are rushing to get to a show and you don’t want to spend your night trailing the pavements of the West End trying to find a suitable option. To save you from overpriced tourist fare and last minute McDonald’s desperation, we recommend the following in the area of the theatre!

For a relaxed atmosphere serving delicious food in close proximity to the Playhouse Theatre (the nearest Prezzo is within 2 minutes’ walk on Northumberland Avenue), Prezzo is a fantastic choice for theatregoers. The restaurant focuses on classic and affordable Italian dishes including a variety of pastas, pizzas, calzones and salads, all within a comfortable contemporary decor and with friendly staff, and offers a few more adventurous menu items than other more traditional Italian chains. The service is fast and friendly, so this is a great option if you’re in a bit of a rush before heading to a show.
This restaurant and whisky bar is located on Trafalgar Square itself, making it the quintessential London dining experience. The venue is bright and stylishly modern, making the most of the natural light that filters through the windows and is furnished with elegant decor. The restaurant has a distinctly British taste, using ingredients from all over the United Kingdom, including Welsh lamb and Scotch beef and it even takes its name from the Gaelic word for ‘Scottish’. The menu is constantly changing, but previous dishes include Wellington Beef, Roast Halibut and Black Truffle and Champagne Risotto. All this is served alongside a thoroughly extensive whisky list or, for those who prefer something a little easier on the tastebuds, there’s a large cocktail menu.
Located directly across from the Playhouse Theatre on the Thames is the R.S. Hispaniola, a beautiful ship moored on the Victoria Embankment that offers a bar and restaurant. Positioned directly opposite from the London Eye, the views simply cannot be beaten, and the atmosphere makes for an entirely unique dining experience. We’d recommend the ham hock terrine, the perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken, and the deliciously delicate banana parfait as part of the three course set menu. The decor is slightly dated, but the service was wonderful and if you’re looking for a bit of a change from traditional restaurants on your night at the theatre, this is a perfect choice.
